Local Businesswoman Rose McKinney-James Joins the MGM MIRAGE Board of Directors

Local business owner and former Mandalay Resort Group board member Rose McKinney-James has joined the MGM MIRAGE (NYSE: MGM) Board of Directors.

McKinney-James brings a tremendous depth of experience to the 17-member Board, including her roles as a local business owner, former governmental affairs executive and former state official.

McKinney-James established and currently owns Energy Works Consulting and McKinney-James & Associates, both based in Las Vegas. She was previously President of Brown & Partners and President of Governmental Affairs for Faiss Foley Merica.

She serves on the boards of Employers Insurance Group, Toyota Financial Savings Bank, the Energy Foundation, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy and the Nature Conservancy. She is a member of the Nevada Humanities Committee, the Nevada Public Education Foundation, Kids to Kids Literacy, and the Board of Trustees of Nevada Partners and Sierra Nevada College. She also serves on the Advisory Council for Women of Diversity and chairs the Government Affairs Committee for the Gaming Organization for Leadership Diversity.

She is currently a registered lobbyist with the Nevada Legislature, representing the Clark County School District.

She is a past President and CEO of the Las Vegas-based Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewal Resources and co-founder of the CEO Coalition, which assisted the Clinton Administration in finding business-friendly solutions to the nation's environmental needs. She was a panelist for the National Energy Policy Initiative, was the first chair of the Nevada Renewable Energy and Conservative Task Force, and currently serves as the member of the task force representing solar energy issues.

McKinney-James served as the first director of Nevada's Department of Business and Industry, was a member of the Nevada Public Service Commission, and served as Vice President and Chair of the Transportation Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissions.

She is formerly Chief of Staff and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the City of Las Vegas, Project Manager for the Nevada Economic Development Company, and coordinator for the Small Business Revitalization Program. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the New Ventures Capital Development Corporation and a Trustee for the Desert Research Institute Foundation.

She was a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Nevada in 1998, and became the first African-American to win a Nevada statewide primary election.

The U.S. Small Business Administration named her its "Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year" in 1993, and she received the Women of Achievement Award from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in 1988. She is a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas, and was one of 25 Nevada women to be included in the first volume of "The 25 Most Notable Women of Las Vegas" in 2004.

McKinney-James is a graduate of Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C., where she worked on Capitol Hill for former New York Rep. Shirley Chisholm. She received her undergraduate degree from Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. She is married to Frederick James, CPA and is the mother of two sons.
