MGM MIRAGE has been named as one of the Top 40 Companies for Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine. The recognition follows an examination of the company's efforts to engage Hispanics in its business operations.

According to Hispanic Business magazine, the top 400 companies on the Fortune 500 list were invited to participate in an in-depth analysis that examined how companies reach Hispanics in areas such as employment, procurement, philanthropy and consumer marketing. Additionally, executive leadership and governance practices to support diversity were evaluated.

At MGM MIRAGE, a board-level diversity committee, chaired by Alexis Herman, the 23rd U.S. Secretary of Labor, establishes diversity policy and monitors the implementation of the company's diversity initiative. More than half of the company's 70,000 employees are diverse, with Hispanics comprising the largest minority population.

The company maintains strategic partnerships with numerous civic, social and professional organizations that enable the creation of collaborative programs to advance its diversity and business goals. Also, nearly 50 percent of the company's total philanthropic contributions benefit programs and initiatives that serve minority and underserved audiences.

The magazine also recognized MGM MIRAGE for communicating its purchasing needs to minority vendors, contractors and suppliers. The company has policies that require minority participation in construction and purchasing bids. Since launching its Supplier Diversity Program three years ago, MGM MIRAGE has increased its expenditures with minority-, women-, and disadvantaged-business enterprises by more than 218 percent.

According to MGM MIRAGE Senior Vice President Corporate Diversity and Community Affairs Punam Mathur, the recognition is a significant accomplishment for the company and its employees. "To be named among the leading companies for diversity, in part, bolsters our effort, and makes us feel proud.

"However, we realize that our diversity journey has just begun and that our commitment requires perseverance. We will continue to reevaluate our systems and methods in our assimilation of the best diversity practices and in our quest for excellence in diversity as in all other aspects of our business," said Mathur.

MGM MIRAGE is the only Las Vegas-based corporation to be named among the Top 40 Companies for Hispanics.
