MGM MIRAGE executives are currently featured on KVVU FOX 5's salute to Black History Month. Featured executives include Debra Nelson, Vice President, Corporate Diversity & Community Affairs; Lorenzo Creighton, President and COO, New York-New York Hotel Casino; and Catherine Bingue, Operations Manager, Teatro at the MGM Grand.

Participants were invited to give personal reflections on the contributions of important African Americans in history. In the profiles, Nelson shares her thoughts on Rosa Parks and her importance to the civil rights movement, Creighton describes his admiration of Muhammad Ali's perseverance in standing up for his beliefs, and Bingue speaks on the impact of Oscar Micheaux, considered one of the most prolific independent film producers in American cinema. Other participants include Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Juan Carlos Aviles, News Director at Univision.

The celebration of Black History Month is one that dates back to 1926 and is credited to Harvard scholar Carter G. Woodson, who dedicated his life to ensuring that black history was properly documented. Woodson organized the first annual Negro History Week during the second week in February to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Over time, Negro History Week has evolved to the month-long celebration known today.

The profiles featuring Debra Nelson and Catherine Bingue are currently airing on KVVU Fox 5, and the profile featuring Lorenzo Creighton is scheduled to begin airing this week. The videos can also be viewed by visiting www.kvvutv.com or www.mgmmiragediversity.com.
