Pat Mulroy, Senior Fellow for Climate Adaption and Environmental Policy, to Speak at 2014 Women’s Leadership Conference

LAS VEGAS – June 5, 2014 – The MGM Resorts Foundation is proud to announce Pat Mulroy as a speaker at the 2014 Women’s Leadership Conference. The non-profit event will be held at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV Aug. 6 and 7.

 

As a member of the “Women in Leadership” panel, Ms. Mulroy will participate in a discussion Aug. 6 aimed at inspiring and encouraging women to achieve success in their personal and professional lives. Developing future women leaders; pursuing success in organizations of all sizes, and overcoming gender barriers to upward mobility in leadership are among the topics to be discussed. The panel will be moderated by Emmy-winning broadcast journalist Natalie Allen.

 

The 2014 Women’s Leadership Conference theme is “Women Inspiring Women.” The two-day conference will offer a wide range of learning opportunities, career guidance and personal growth tools, including:

 

  • Exposure to diverse, nationally recognized speakers and accomplished women role models

  • Career-oriented workshops that will give participants hands-on opportunities to develop skills based on their career needs

  • Three distinct learning tracks for participants who are Emerging Leaders, Emerging Executives and Executives

 

A leader in the international water community for more than 25 years, Ms. Mulroy serves as the Senior Fellow for Climate Adaptation and Environmental Policy at University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Brookings Mountain West. This non-profit organization is a joint research and policy development center created by Nevada’s largest institute of higher education and the internationally renowned Brookings Institution. She also holds a faculty position at the Desert Research Institute, where she serves as the Maki Distinguished Faculty Associate. Mulroy is also a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program.

 

Between 1989 and early 2014, Ms. Mulroy served as General Manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, a municipal purveyor serving more than 350,000 accounts, and the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA), the regional agency responsible for acquiring, treating and delivering water to two million Southern Nevadans and 40 million annual visitors. Mulroy was a principal architect of the SNWA, helping to guide Southern Nevada through an unprecedented period of growth and one of the worst droughts in the history of the Colorado River.

 

At UNLV’s Brookings Mountain West and DRI, Mulroy’s focus is on helping communities in water-stressed areas develop strategies to address increased volatility in water resources and identify solutions that balance the needs of all stakeholders. In her faculty role at DRI, Mulroy also will explore the role of technology in optimizing the use of water resources.

 

The Women’s Leadership Conference is open to women of all ethnicities, professions and social backgrounds, locally and nationally, and the men who support them. The MGM Resorts Foundation is the conference’s presenting sponsor. Proceeds of the conference after costs will be donated to one or more local nonprofit agencies devoted to the welfare and development of women and girls.

 

Registration is $350, which includes the full conference and all workshops and lectures; a networking reception, and continental breakfasts and lunches catered by MGM Grand.  Time is also allotted for attendees to build key professional relationships with other conference
